Spherical Roller Bearing

NIBL’s self-aligning double-row spherical roller bearings combine the functions of radial and axial bearings. These bearings are specifically designed to operate effectively even when the shaft and housing are or become, misaligned under load. The internal design of spherical roller bearings allows them to withstand very high radial loads and axial loads in both directions. These heavy-duty bearings are the preferred choice when conditions involve heavy loads, challenges in establishing or maintaining housing alignment, or expected shaft deflection.

These bearings can accommodate high degrees of misalignment depending on the size and series of the bearing. Shaft deflection and housing distortion caused by shock or heavy loads, which lead to misalignment, are compensated for by the internal self-alignment of the bearing elements during operation. Spherical roller bearings eliminate the issue of corner loading of rollers—a condition that limits service life in other types of bearings.

The inherent misalignment compensation provided by spherical roller bearings offers designers the flexibility to use weldments for housing frames instead of complex castings, reducing the need for costly machining operations. Even when castings are preferred, bore alignment is less critical if spherical roller bearings are used. The design and construction of these bearings also make them convenient to handle during installation and maintenance.

Most types feature circular grooves and lubricating holes in the outer ring, facilitating more effective lubrication. NIBL manufactures spherical roller bearings with both cylindrical and tapered bores. Tapered bore bearings can be used in either Plummer blocks or conventional housings.
